Change Starts Here

Change primarily occurs outside the session. To assist you with this, we provide information on good preparation. Change begins with you, and we’re here to support that process.

Before the Session

Proper preparation can make your session more effective. The questions below can help you reflect on your situation and what you aim to achieve.

  • What do I want to discuss?
  • What issue do I want to resolve?
  • Why do I feel the need for a session now?
  • What concerns me? How is this a problem for me?
  • What changes do I desire as a result of the conversation?
  • When do I experience the problem less or not at all? What do I do differently during those times? How do I manage that?
  • When do things go as I wish? What changes in my actions? How do I accomplish that?
  • Which skills, resources, and strengths can I leverage for my current issue?
  • What have I tried before, and what was the outcome?
  • How have I handled a similar issue in the past? Who and what were helpful or not?

What approach/support would best suit my current issue?

Consider also how you’d like to be assisted and what you wish to avoid. The list below may help. You can share your preferences at the beginning of the session.

  • Provide a new perspective on my problem.
  • Help me differentiate between what I can and cannot control.
  • Encourage changes in my behavior.
  • Clarify how the situation can be altered, assuming it’s changeable.
  • Allow me to express my feelings freely.
  • Assist in understanding those I have issues with.
  • Encourage seeking support from others in my life.
  • Explore resources/tools I can utilize, such as apps, books, courses, or support from colleagues and friends.
  • Teach me a new skill for handling problems.
  • Enhance a skill I already possess.
  • Guide me in accepting things as they are.
  • Assist in making a significant decision.
  • Provide practical advice and strategies for specific situations.
  • Prepare me to face a challenging situation.
  • Or…

Time Before and After the Session

If possible, allocate at least thirty minutes before and after the session when you won’t be disturbed.
Turn your phone to airplane mode, unless it’s needed for the call.
Silence notifications on all your devices. Use this time to reflect and write about the session.

We wish you a productive session.
